September 2024 Expedition

The Dream Expedition

Starting from Mumbai, our group of twenty families embarked on a journey organized by Thomas Cook, Bhubaneswar to witness a long-cherished dream: the Masaimara Wildlife Habitat.

"As a Forest Officer, the sight of lakhs of wild animals grazing on the vast sprawling grassland was a unique and thrilling scene that I had to see with my own eyes to believe".

The Great Migration

A display of animal instinct, where herbivores migrate from Serengeti to Masaimara between June and October for safer, regenerated grasslands.

The Route

A cross-continental trek from the urban luxury of Cape Town to the primitive, closely-knit lifestyle of the Masai villages.

About the Author

I am A. K. Patra, retired from the Indian Forest Service in 2016.

Since retirement, I have travelled to the nooks and corners of the world. My recent expedition to South Africa and Kenya, especially witnessing the vast migratory wildlife of Masaimara, deeply inspired me to document this journey.

The incredible sight of thousands of herbivores migrating from Serengeti (Tanzania) to Masaimara (Kenya) is not only a marvel of nature but also a lesson in instinct, survival, and harmony.

This travel story is presented to guide and inspire future travelers who wish to experience South Africa and Kenya in their raw, untamed beauty.
